I made two touch and sense maps for Milbank. People touching maps through their fingertips, every building and piece on the map were casted from original buildings.
Casting Projects
One of my maps is made from plaster. It casts textures of buildings that have been constructed on the prison's original footprint. A canvas map below indicates the names of the buildings.
Part 1
Part 2
The other map is a geological sampling map. It features materials I collected from selected points where the Milbank Prison once stood. I casted the materials in glass wax so as to make them visible as units. By separating them outing suspending then, I aim to highlight things that we often take for granted. The gives us a richer sense of our built environment.
